Vetoryl contains Trilostane, the standard treatment for Hyperadrenocorticism (also known as Cushing's disease) in dogs. This disease causes excessive levels of the hormone Cortisol, and Trilostane works by temporarily blocking the production of this hormone. Treatment needs to be continuous to keep the symptoms under control, and often needs to be adjusted over time to adapt to the amount of hormone the animal is trying to produce.
Side effects are uncommon and can be reversed with withdrawal of the medication. In most cases symptoms of the disease can be completely supressed for extended periods of time.
